Who are we and what is happiness?
Who we are can be explained later. Let's start with the second question by sharing something our founder wrote:
"Happiness is a complex emotion that has been studied by philosophers and scientists for centuries. The word happiness exists in many languages, a few of which I have learned, but it's not so easy to define. There is no one definition of happiness, but it is generally understood to be a state of well-being and contentment.
Happiness is important because it can have a positive impact on our physical and mental health, our relationships, and our overall quality of life. Studies have shown that happy people are more likely to live longer, have healthier relationships, and be more successful in their careers. Not having a lot of happiness as a child, I devote myself to maintaining it as an adult.
There are many different things that can contribute to our happiness. Some of these things are within our control, such as our attitude, our relationships, and our choices. Other things, such as our circumstances and our genetics, are less within our control but can be better managed with hard work, assistance, and a willingness to stay flexible.
Regardless of what makes us happy, it is important to find things that bring us joy and to make them a part of our lives. Here are a few tips I've learned to incorporate into my life that may help you too:
- Focus on the positive. It is easy to get caught up in the negative aspects of our lives, but it is important to make an effort to focus on the good things. Make a list of the things that you are grateful for, and read it over when you are feeling down.
- Spend time with loved ones. Strong relationships are essential for happiness. Make time for the people who are important to you, and let them know how much you care.
- Do things that you enjoy. Make sure to set aside time for activities that you find enjoyable. This could be anything from reading to playing a sport to spending time in nature.
- Give back to others. Helping others is a great way to boost your own happiness. Find a cause that you are passionate about and volunteer your time, donate to charity, or start a business like I've done."

After living and working within the Southern Oregon/Northern California for the last decade and finding inspiration and encouragement from the kindness and hospitality of his customers while installing their TV, our founder, Paul Hedges, decided to officially start PdsHedges. He is and has always been committed to building strong relationships with his customers and the communities he serves. We believe that by working together, we can create a happier and more connected world.
How are we helping people to be happier?
We made HAPPINESS our mission! Here are a few examples of how we are helping people to be happier:
- Helping people gain digital literacy and cybersecurity education: We offer classes and workshops on using technology, maintaining safety online, protecting data and privacy, account management, and many more. These classes teach people how to use technology affordably, safely and effectively.
- Assisting all Americans in obtaining affordable and reliable telecommunications services, regardless of income or location: We help people find affordable telecommunications plans and services that fit their needs. We also provide discounts and free information for government agencies and non-profit organizations they may qualify for to help people who are struggling to afford telecommunications services. We'll even help with the application process if needed.
- Protecting elders: Abusive and misleading sales tactics are all too common in the telecommunications world. We educate elders about these tactics, explain these practices, and we help them to avoid these scams. From the guy at the cell-phone store telling you that you need a higher priced plan or a new phone to the TV installer saying that you have to purchase a certain cable to get HD, we have seen it all and we hope to help bring an end these types of practices by informing consumers, assisting to gain resolution, reporting unethical salesmen and businesses, and providing tools and resources for others to do the same.
- Paying it forward: We pass on helpful information and tips about how to be frugal including information about certain programs, grants, discounts, specials, or whatever we learn about that helps keep telecommunication costs down. Essentially, we share whatever we can to help save money on telecommunications services. We also offer discounts and specials to our customers and sometimes provide services at no cost when we feel the customer cannot afford it.
- Inspire others to be Integrity-oriented: With a life-long history volunteering and working in the entertainment, consumer electronic, and telecom world[s], our founder could not give in to the corporate greed or their push to incorporated unethical tactics into his dealings with customers. So, from this, with integrity PdsHedges was born to combat such happenings. We are committed to providing our customers with the best possible service. We also believe in doing the right thing at all times, even if it means missing out on a sale or losing money.
- Nurture relationships: We build strong connections to and relationships with our customers, local businesses, and the communities we serve because we genuinely care and are willing to help in ways we don't offer through sales even if it's just a stop by to say hi. We treat people the way they should be treated - with kindness and respect and with an open mind and an open heart, because we are people too and we treat people how we want to be treated. We are here because of these relationships and believe that these relationships are essential to our continued success.
- Educate ourselves continuously: We stay up-to-date on a wide variety of the latest technologies and telecommunications services. We understand the fact that everything changes and there's always something new. We're always growing in knowledge and finding a new way to do things. This allows us to meet the specific needs of our customers and helps us to be more humble
- Supporting the underserved: We offer services and resources to people who are often overlooked or ignored, such as low-income households, seniors, and people with disabilities. In fact, seniors, our elders, the golden group of people need us the most and are the very group of people we were founded to help while also being the same group of people who encouraged PdsHedges to be established.
- Solve problems by working with others: From working with our customers or their families for their continued support and assistance to reaching out to our colleagues when we require special equipment or stumble upon difficulties resolving a customer's issue, we work with others to solve the problem. There is no shame in asking for help when needed. If we could all learn to work together, image what this world could be. This includes working with our customers, their families, and our colleagues.
We believe that everyone deserves to be happy. That is why we are committed to providing our customers with the services and resources they need to stay connected, protected, and informed when dealing with technology or telecommunications. Communication and entertainment are among the most important things when looking for happiness and our happiness comes from helping to provide it to all people.
